Karachi Prado incident: Will Amna Arif get justice?

Natasha Amna Karachi incident Prado

(Web Desk Monitoring) — Amna Arif and her father, Imran, tragically lost their lives when their motorcycle was struck by an SUV driven by Natasha Iqbal, who was reportedly intoxicated at the time of the accident.

Amna, a 23-year-old employed at a private firm, was pursuing her MBA with the support of her father, who sold snacks to fund her education. Their lives were cut short when Natasha’s Prado collided with their motorcycle, then continued to hit other vehicles and pedestrians before crashing onto the service road. Both Amna and her father died instantly, and a third victim later succumbed to injuries at the hospital.

Concerns have arisen regarding the pursuit of justice in this case, given Natasha Iqbal’s marriage to a prominent industrialist in Karachi. Many fear this incident could follow a familiar pattern where the wealthy evade accountability.

In court, Natasha’s defense attorney, Amir Mansoob Qureshi, argued that she suffers from a mental illness and left home without informing her family. He requested that Natasha not be presented before the judge due to her fragile mental state and mentioned the family’s willingness to pay “Diya” (blood money) of Rs 6.8 million per victim.

Despite the seriousness of the charges, Natasha appears to be receiving preferential treatment. The court granted only a one-day remand, despite the police’s request for seven days, and she is currently being held in a hospital rather than in police custody.
