Karachi ranked second riskiest city worldwide by Forbes

Karachi world riskiest

(Web Desk) — Karachi, Pakistan’s largest urban metropolis, has been ranked the world’s second riskiest city by Forbes Advisor.

The port city trails only Caracas, Venezuela, on a list derived from a study comparing 60 international cities across seven key metrics: crime, personal safety, health, infrastructure, natural disasters, and digital security.

Forbes Advisor highlights Karachi’s highest personal security risk, encompassing crime, violence, terrorist threats, natural disasters, and economic vulnerabilities. The U.S. State Department rated it second-worst for travel safety and noted the city has the fourth-highest infrastructure security risk.

In a June 2023 travel advisory, the State Department warned of “indiscriminate attacks on civilians, local military, and police targets” due to terrorism and ongoing violence by extremist elements. They issued a “Level 3” advisory, advising visitors to reconsider travel to Pakistan, as reported by CNBC.

Caracas, Venezuela, tops the list with the highest health security risk and highest crime risk, while Yangon, Myanmar, ranks third, with the highest digital security risk and third-highest personal security risk.

Conversely, Forbes Advisor also identified the world’s safest cities:

  1. Singapore: Best travel safety rating, lowest natural disaster risk, and second-lowest health security risk.
  2. Tokyo, Japan: Lowest health security risk and best travel safety rating.
  3. Toronto, Canada: Secured third place for overall safety.

These rankings emphasize the stark contrasts in safety and risk factors among the world’s major cities.
