ISLAMABAD (Daily Point) — Khawaja Asif, a central leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), is urging an “open hearing” for the commission investigating the 2017 Faizabad sit-in.
As the former defense minister, Asif recently appeared before the commission, recording an “incomplete” testimony to be finalized later. He advocates for transparent hearings with media coverage, aiming to reveal the true factors contributing to the country’s challenges over the past 75 years.
Expressing dissatisfaction with previous commissions’ outcomes on significant historical events, Asif calls on all stakeholders to confront consequences and rectify past mistakes.
The high-powered commission, established by the caretaker government, seeks to determine the roles of relevant officials in handling the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan’s Faizabad sit-in against the then-PML-N government in 2017.
