(Web Desk monitoring) — Social media has been buzzing with viral videos showing a group of girls physically confronting a salesman at a store in Lahore, who they claimed had sexually harassed them.
The incident occurred at a tuckshop located at a fuel pump in Garden Town, where the girls accused the salesman of making inappropriate comments and laughing at them. Following their allegations, the police registered a case against him.
However, the salesman was later released by the police, who subsequently filed assault charges against the three girls for their actions. CCTV footage of the incident, which took place two days ago, suggested that the girls attacked the salesman after an intense verbal exchange.
In response to the incident, Pakistani actor Mariyam Nafees came to the defense of the girls, who are reportedly receiving “death and rape threats.” In an Instagram video statement, she argued that the girls resorted to violence only after the salesman made inappropriate remarks about their bodies and character.
Mariyam revealed that one of the girls is a close friend, while another had traveled from another city seeking work, emphasizing that none of them come from influential backgrounds. She contended that the girls did not attack the salesman without provocation; rather, they first confronted him about his comments, leading him to retaliate with abusive language.
The actor criticized the harassment faced by the girls, suggesting it stemmed from their choice to wear western clothing and being out late at night. Mariyam called for the fuel pump owner to release a voice recording of the incident as evidence of the harassment.
She expressed her concern that the narrative surrounding the incident was one-sided and highlighted the need to consider all perspectives. Sources indicated that the police are re-investigating the case after filing assault charges against the girls.
