LAHORE (Daily Point) — Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML_N) leader and three-time prime minister, Nawaz Sharif, expressed his commitment to accountability rather than revenge during a PML-N Parliamentary body meeting on Wednesday.

Grateful for his acquittal in the Al-Azizia and Avenfield reference cases, Sharif asserted that the charges against him were unfounded and emerged after the conclusion of his term as prime minister.

Highlighting the lack of evidence supporting the allegations, Sharif lamented his removal from office in the Panama case, citing the use of terms like “Sicilian Mafia” and “Godfather” during the proceedings. He questioned the appropriateness of such language coming from judges.

Addressing the broader issue, the PML-N supremo clarified that his objective was not vendetta but accountability for those responsible for the nation’s hardships. He insisted on revealing the conspirators behind his targeting, linking it to their opposition to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) program.

Nawaz Sharif also shared the personal toll of the legal battles, noting that he and his daughter Maryam faced imprisonment in what he deemed as “fake cases,” while his wife, Kalsoom Begum, succumbed to cancer in London. Sharif emphasized that these wounds would never fully heal.

It is noteworthy that despite previous convictions in the accountability court for the Avenfield and Al-Azizia references, Nawaz Sharif was recently acquitted in both cases.
