ISLAMABAD (Daily Point) — The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Thursday announced an increase in the electricity tariff by Rs4.12 per unit for consumers, attributing it to fuel adjustment charges for November 2023.
The adjustment will result in additional charges for consumers in January 2024, excluding Lifeline and KE consumers.
The NEPRA decision, prompted by a request from the caretaker government, aims to maintain a uniform electricity tariff nationwide. The regulatory authority also approved a surge of Rs 1.72 per unit for K-Electric (KE) consumers, covering third-quarterly adjustment charges from the previous financial year.
As outlined in the notification, the approved increase includes Rs 1.25 per unit for the adjustment period from January to March 2023 and Rs 0.47 per unit for the adjustment period from October to December 2022. While Lifeline and KE consumers remain exempt from the tariff hike, the move has implications for other consumers who will experience an uptick in electricity costs.
