SYDNEY (Daily Point) — Aamer Jamal etched his name into the record books during the third Test match in Sydney, achieving the highest score by a No. 9 Pakistani batter in Tests in Australia.
His remarkable innings of 82 runs off 97 balls surpassed the previous record held by Wasim Bari, who had scored 72 runs in Adelaide back in 1972.
In a stellar display of batting prowess at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Jamal showcased his best performance yet, building on glimpses of his talent from the second Test. With nine boundaries and four sixes, he played an aggressive innings at the No. 9 position, contributing significantly to Pakistan’s total of 313 runs in 77.1 overs.
Notably, Jamal reached his half-century off just 71 balls, frustrating the Australian bowlers. Partnering with Mir Hamza, the duo forged an 86-run stand, propelling Pakistan past the 300-run mark. Now, with the baton handed over to the bowlers, Jamal faces the challenge of helping limit Australia to a modest score.
Before his standout performance at the SCG Test, Jamal had displayed consistency with two half-centuries in thirty first-class cricket appearances. His all-around skills make him a potential asset for Pakistan in all formats, provided he receives the right training and opportunities to further develop his game.
