‘No passport policy for asylum seekers’ challenged in Supreme Court

(Web Desk Monitoring) — A recent policy by Pakistan’s Interior Ministry banning the issuance of passports to asylum seekers abroad has been challenged in the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP).

According to the private TV channel, the petition, filed by Advocate Saim Chaudhary under Section 184(3), seeks to nullify the government’s June 5 directive.

The petition argues that the passport ban notification is discriminatory and violates fundamental rights. It claims the policy contradicts Articles 10, 10A, and 25 of the Constitution, which pertain to the rights of individuals to due process and equality before the law.

The federal government and the Director General of Passports have been named as respondents in the petition. The petitioner has requested the apex court to immediately halt the enforcement of the policy, noting that the notification failed to provide specific reasons for the ban.
