ISLAMABAD (Daily Point0 — The Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) provincial head in Punjab expressed dissatisfaction with alleged police interference in the electoral process and conveyed concerns to the Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) on Sunday.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Saeed Gul stressed the ECP’s intolerance for meddling in its officers’ work, stressing the importance of a level playing field for fair elections, as reported private TV channel.
The move came in response to a letter from Lahore district election commissioner Abdul Wadood Khan, who reported interference in the work of returning officers.
This complaint coincided with claims from the PTI about obstacles faced by its candidates in submitting nomination papers, including alleged incidents of police personnel seizing papers.
Wadood’s letter detailed multiple complaints from returning officers in Lahore regarding interference by law enforcement agencies, particularly the police.
Despite attempts to contact the police officials, Wadood faced challenges, prompting his suggestion for the provincial election commissioner to engage with the chief secretary and the IGP. This communication followed Gul’s response to Wadood’s letter, involving a telephone call to IGP Anwar.
