The latest film starring Vijay Sethupathi and Katrina Kaif, titled “Merry Christmas,” is proving to be a formidable contender at the box office, maintaining its strong performance despite facing tough competition from South Indian Telugu and Tamil blockbusters like “Captain Miller” and “HanuMan,” along with their Hindi-dubbed versions.
On its fourth day since release, the film achieved impressive double-digit box office collections, reaching a net total of 11.38 crore Indian rupees.
Directed by Sriram Raghavan, “Merry Christmas” unfolds its narrative in a bygone era against the vibrant backdrop of Mumbai, earning acclaim from both critics and industry insiders.
The film’s unusual pairing of Vijay Sethupathi and Katrina Kaif has received positive reviews. Shubhra Gupta of The Indian Express praised their on-screen chemistry, stating, “They make for an unlikely pair, but they make it work.” Kaif’s performance as Maria and Sethupathi’s portrayal of Albert were highlighted for their authenticity and depth.
Katrina Kaif’s husband, actor Vicky Kaushal, also expressed his admiration for her work. On social media, he commended her performance, calling it her best work to date and praising her portrayal of Maria’s rawness, mystery, and magic.
The star-studded cast includes Tinnu Raaj Anand, Sanjay Kapoor, Vinay Pathak, Pratima Kannan, Radhika Apte, and Ashwini Kalsekar.
Originally scheduled for a theatrical release on December 23, 2022, “Merry Christmas” faced delays due to production issues. The film is set to be released on Netflix, although the specific OTT release date has not been announced yet. Fans eagerly anticipate its availability on the streaming platform.
