PCB chief hints at ‘major surgery’ in team after defeat from India in T20 World Cup

PCB Chairman Mohsin Nqvi

(Web Desk) — After Pakistan’s defeat from India in the T20 World Cup on Sunday, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has indicated that the national team will undergo major changes.

In the T20 World Cup clash last night, India emerged victorious over Pakistan by six runs. Rishabh Pant scored 42 runs, and Jasprit Bumrah took three wickets. Pakistan’s 113 runs fell short of India’s 119, severely impacting their chances of qualifying for the Super Eight stage.

“It seemed initially that a minor surgery would suffice, but following the extremely poor performance against India, it is clear that a major surgery is necessary,” Naqvi remarked while speaking to journalists after the match.

Naqvi highlighted the current struggles of Pakistani cricket. “Our performance is at its lowest. Improving the team’s performance is our biggest challenge,” he noted.

He hinted that the nation will soon witness substantial changes within the team. “We need to prepare the team for the Champions Trophy, and it is time to give new talent sitting on the sidelines a chance,” Naqvi stated.

The PCB chairman further emphasized the goal of making the Pakistani cricket team one of the best in the world. “I am well aware of what is happening within the team and the reasons behind the defeat.”

Naqvi concluded by acknowledging the nation’s expectations. “The nation does not expect such disappointing performances from the cricket team. We must deliver better results,” he added.
