Renowned Bollywood director Sanjay Leela Bhansali made his Netflix series debut with ‘Heeramandi’, but the star-studded show has faced sharp criticism from the public.

Despite high expectations and a lavish budget, ‘Heeramandi’ appears to be a puzzle with many missing pieces, according to public reviews. Viewers pointed out several flaws, including inaccuracies in depicting Lahore, Muslim culture, and the Urdu language.

One glaring error noted by audiences was the portrayal of Muslim burial customs, where a woman’s head should be covered when taken to the graveyard, a detail missed in the series. Additionally, basic spelling errors in Urdu were apparent, detracting from the authenticity of the show.

The character of Alamzeb (or Alam), portrayed by the director’s real niece, failed to impress viewers, with many describing the performance as expressionless and lacking depth.

Critics also lamented the overemphasis on grandeur at the expense of authenticity, noting a lack of research into the city’s backdrop and historical context. Some viewers found the series to be too over-the-top, with the real essence missing.

Despite these shortcomings, some praised Bhansali’s work, highlighting the plot, performances, costumes, and set design.

In summary, while ‘Heeramandi’ boasts impressive elements, it falls short of expectations due to its inaccuracies and lack of attention to detail. The series is available for streaming on Netflix.
