LAHORE (Daily Point) — The Punjab government has taken a significant step in addressing environmental pollution by deciding to offer electric bikes to students at an affordable price.
In a recent announcement, the government revealed its plans to follow up on the introduction of electric rickshaws with a new initiative – providing electric bikes to students at a low cost.
Caretaker Transport Minister Punjab, Ibrahim Hassan Murad, highlighted the severe smog issue in the region, primarily attributed to transportation, especially rickshaws and motorcycles. In an interview, he emphasized the government’s commitment to tackling this problem by introducing electric vehicles.
Having previously introduced electric rickshaws with designs inspired by China and Thailand, the minister shared that the next step is the introduction of electric bikes. He stated that the ultimate goal is to implement an electric vehicle charging infrastructure throughout Punjab.
Furthermore, Minister Murad outlined the plan to distribute one to two hundred thousand electric bikes to students at an affordable price in the initial phase. This initiative aims not only to provide cost-effective transportation solutions but also to contribute significantly to reducing the environmental impact of traditional modes of transport in the region.
