Shahid Afridi to unveil ‘inside story’ of Pakistani T20 World Cup squad

Shahid Afridi Pakistani squad T20 World Cup

(Web Desk Monitoring) — Former Pakistan cricket team captain Shahid Afridi has announced that he will soon reveal the inside story of the current squad for the T20 World Cup.

In a recent interview with a local private TV channel, Afridi addressed concerns about the lack of unity within the national team. When questioned about this issue, he pointed towards young pacer Mohammad Wasim, who was also present during the interview.

Referring to Wasim, who has recently been part of the squad, Afridi said, “He knows many things, and so do I, but we cannot talk openly.”

Afridi emphasized that team cohesion and unity are primarily the captain’s responsibility. He stated, “The captain either creates a positive atmosphere or spoils it.” He further explained that, before the team management and coaches, it is the captain who unites the team and holds the authority, supported by the selection committee. “It is the captain’s job to make the team fight on the field,” Afridi added.

Speaking about Pakistan pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi, who is also his son-in-law, Afridi noted that his relationship with Shaheen is different. “If I talk about something, people will say that I am supporting my son-in-law, although I am not. If my daughter, son, or son-in-law are wrong, I will also call them wrong,” he said.

Afridi also criticized the selection committee, stating that it has “made big mistakes” in recent years. He pledged to speak openly about these issues after the World Cup, adding, “Our people themselves have spoiled this unit.”

This announcement follows Pakistan’s humiliating loss to archrivals India in a crucial T20 World Cup 2024 match, a highly anticipated encounter in the cricket world. This defeat came on the heels of a shocking loss to the inexperienced United States in their first match. Pakistan now faces a challenging situation, needing victories in their next two matches and relying on other teams’ performances to advance to the Super Eight stage of the tournament.
