(Daily Point) — Shoaib Malik, the versatile all-rounder, has firmly denied rumors of involvement in match-fixing during his participation in the Bangladesh Premier League.

He clarified that his departure from the T20 cricket tournament was due to a pre-scheduled media engagement in Dubai.

In a statement released on Friday, Malik asserted, “I want to make it clear that I strongly refute these baseless rumors. It’s crucial for everyone to verify information before believing and spreading it.”

Malik, who was playing for Fortune Barishal in the league, faced speculation in Indian media suggesting that he left the tournament on January 24 due to spot-fixing claims leading to the termination of his contract. However, team owner Meezan ur Rehman dismissed these allegations as ‘baseless,’ confirming that Malik left for personal reasons.

In an official social media statement, Malik addressed the recent rumors about his playing status with the team. The former Pakistan cricket team captain revealed that he had a comprehensive discussion with Barishal’s captain, Tamim Iqbal, and together they mutually planned his departure.

“I had to leave Bangladesh for a pre-committed media engagement in Dubai,” he explained, extending his best wishes to the team for their upcoming matches. Malik also expressed his readiness to support the team if needed.

In light of the recent speculations, Malik emphasized the significance of exercising caution, stating, “Falsehoods can harm reputations and create unnecessary confusion. Let’s prioritize accuracy and rely on credible sources to ensure a clear understanding of the facts.”
