(Web Desk) — Internet services across Pakistan have faced significant disruptions, affecting all major internet service providers and causing widespread inconvenience.
The outage, which has continued for several days, has particularly impacted social media platforms, with users struggling to even download audio messages.
While internet service providers have attributed the disruptions to issues with social media platforms, mobile companies have denied any involvement. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has yet to comment on the situation.
In response to the disruptions, the government is advancing a new regulatory framework for social media platforms. This proposed framework, which requires approval from the Federal Cabinet, will mandate that companies store data within Pakistan and provide location and general information upon request.
In addition to these regulations, ongoing work on a firewall is also believed to be contributing to the internet issues. Officials have indicated that the service disruptions might continue until August 30th.
