(Web Desk) — The initial investigative report into the brutal murder of a tourist in Madyan, a popular recreational spot in Swat, over alleged blasphemy has surfaced, revealing disturbing details.
According to the report, the accused consistently denied the blasphemy allegations. The report states that an unknown tourist found what appeared to be burnt pieces of Quranic pages in the corridor outside the victim’s hotel room. This discovery was reported to the hotel management, who then notified the police and forcibly opened the accused’s door.
Upon opening the door, the accused was confronted by people and denied any desecration of the Quran. The local police then arrived and took the accused to the police station.
The report highlights that this decision was a critical mistake leading to fatal consequences. The Station House Officer (SHO) failed to contact any senior officer for guidance. In such situations, evacuation should have been a priority, but instead, the SHO transferred the accused to the police station.
The police kept the accused in custody at the station for at least 30 to 40 minutes. During this time, according to Today News, DPO Zahid Ullah mentioned that an initial statement was attempted from the accused, who again insisted that he had not committed any blasphemy and rejected the allegations.
During this period, a crowd gathered outside the police station and eventually attacked it. The report states that the police bravely tried to control the situation, firing in the air and confronting the mob, but the absence of senior officers and political leaders led to a tragic outcome.
The report concludes that transferring the accused to the police station instead of evacuating him, combined with the absence of senior officers or political figures to manage the crowd, resulted in this tragic incident.
