T20 World Cup 2024: ICC announces Men’s ‘Team of the Tournament’

(Web Desk) — The International Cricket Council (ICC) has recently announced the Team of the Tournament for the Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, highlighting the standout performers of the tournament.

It is pertinent to mention here that six players from the victorious Indian team have made it to the list.

Rohit Sharma and his squad clinched the T20 World Cup title after 17 years by defeating South Africa by seven runs in a thrilling final held in Barbados on Saturday.

The Indian players honored in the Team of the Tournament are captain Rohit Sharma, Player of the Tournament Jasprit Bumrah, all-rounder Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, and Axar Patel.

The team also includes three players from Afghanistan: Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Rashid Khan, and Fazalhaq Farooqi. West Indies’ Nicholas Pooran and Australia’s Marcus Stoinis round out the XI, with South Africa’s pacer Anrich Nortje named as the 12th man.

In addition, Rohit Sharma has announced his retirement from T20Is, along with veteran batter Virat Kohli, following this historic win.

This victory marks India’s second T20 World Cup title, their first being in the inaugural 2007 tournament where they defeated Pakistan in the final. The 2024 win also ends India’s long wait for an ICC trophy, their last being the Champions Trophy in 2013 under MS Dhoni’s leadership.
