Tecno launches first-ever liquid Zoom camera in world with launch of Phantom X

During its recent Future Lens event in Shanghai, Tecno introduced three revolutionary technologies set to be featured in upcoming Phantom X camera phones.

One notable innovation is Tecno’s unique W-shaped adjustable aperture, drawing inspiration from the cuttlefish eye. This design, aimed at reducing glare in challenging lighting situations such as strong backlight, has generated significant interest. Enthusiasts eagerly await details about the specific sensor and lens combination Tecno will pair with this distinctive W-shaped shutter in their upcoming devices.

Tecno also unveiled an industry-first: a liquid telephoto macro lens. While liquid lens technology has been seen previously, its integration into a periscope module marks a groundbreaking development. Traditional periscope lenses, constrained by size, often struggle to achieve macro focusing within a standard two-section housing.

Tecno’s innovative design uses voltage to adjust the curvature of the lens, facilitating a seamless transition from wide to narrow focus and achieving a macro focusing distance as close as 5cm. This liquid lens technology not only allows for larger sensors but also presents a significant advantage.

Most smartphones currently rely on their ultra-wide cameras for macro shots, but these often result in substantial image distortion due to their wide perspective. Tecno’s approach, employing a longer focal length with a periscope zoom, promises a more authentic approach to macro photography, potentially delivering higher-quality, distortion-free images.
