Thousands in Iran celebrate after retaliatory strike

Iran retaliatory strike Israel

Thousands of Iranians took to the streets in Iran to show solidarity with the ongoing drone and missile attacks against Israel.

The demonstration in Tehran’s Palestine Square resounded with chants of “Death to Israel!” and “Death to America!” following the announcement of Operation Honest Promise by the Revolutionary Guards.

A mural warning of a more severe future blow was unveiled, alongside a banner advising Israelis to “seek refuge.” Amid a sea of Iranian and Palestinian flags, banners declaring “Victory from God is imminent” were waved by protesters.

The retaliatory strike by Iran was in response to an attack on April 1 that destroyed the five-story consular annex of the Iranian embassy in Damascus, killing seven Revolutionary Guards, including two generals. This attack was widely attributed to Israel, prompting Iran to vow revenge.

Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, declared that Israel would face consequences for its actions. Iranian media described the assault on Israel as “multifaceted,” involving allies in Yemen, Lebanon, and Iraq. The Tasnim news agency reported, “This attack wasn’t solely from Iran; the Israeli regime is being punished from multiple fronts.”

In Tehran, demonstrators also gathered outside the British embassy, while in Isfahan, supporters of the attack met near the burial site of Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi, one of the generals killed in the Damascus attack. In Kerman, people gathered at the grave of the late Guards commander Qasem Soleimani, who was killed in a 2020 US drone strike in Baghdad.
