ISLAMABAD (Daily Point) — The United States (US) Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) has opened applications for the prestigious Fulbright Student Programme 2024, funded by the United States Government and touted as the world’s largest in terms of financial contribution, as per a recent press release.

Candidates from diverse fields, including energy, water, agriculture, health, education, environmental science, and climate change, are invited to apply. While clinical medicine is excluded, non-clinical public health applications are encouraged.

Prospective applicants can submit their applications at www.usefp.org until the deadline on February 28, 2024. The premier academic exchange initiative covers graduate studies, including tuition, maintenance, insurance, and air travel.

Applicants are required to take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), with a minimum score of 145 in both the verbal and quantitative sections. Shortlisted candidates will undergo the Duolingo English Test.

Reflecting on the impact of the Fulbright Program in Pakistan, US Ambassador Donald Blome emphasized the accomplishments of Pakistani Fulbrighters in solving social problems, shaping legislation, and advancing policies for equal access and representation. Blome stated, “They do this all for one purpose: to create a better, safer, and more prosperous Pakistan. In this goal, the United States and Pakistan are united.”

Since 2005, the Fulbright Programme has awarded nearly 3,000 fully funded scholarships to Pakistani students for graduate studies. These scholars have completed their studies and research, contributing significantly to the public and private sectors with their acquired knowledge and expertise.

USEFP Executive Director Rita Akhtar, in a message to potential applicants, encourages talented students and working professionals, with a special emphasis on those from public universities and under-served areas, to consider applying. Akhtar highlighted the merit-based nature of the Fulbright Program, taking into account the challenges applicants have overcome. She stated, “One of the goals of the program is to build human capacity in Pakistan, so successful applicants will plan to return to Pakistan on completion of their degrees and use their new skills and knowledge for the benefit of the country.”
