What actions should judges take after receiving threat, tells Nasira iqbal

Justice Nasira farrukh warraich

LAHORE (Daily Point) – In a bold statement on Farrukh Warraich’s Show, Justice (R) Nasira Iqbal, daughter-in-law of Allama Iqbal, urged judges to take decisive actions following threats to ensure judicial integrity and safety.

Justice (Retd.) Nasra Iqbal stated that during her service if a party or an influential person attempted to pressure her into making a particular decision, she believed a judge should have the authority to summon them to court and imprison them. She said that this approach would be effective.

She further revealed that, during her tenure, she was never threatened by any organization or influential person. “If such a situation had occurred, she would have taken contempt of court action against the individual or withdrawn from the case, referring it to the Chief Justice,” she maintained. She also highlighted that judges hold significant power in society.

Justice (Retd.) Nasra Iqbal disclosed that in 2018, she was offered the position of President of Pakistan by PTI founder Imran Khan. However, she declined the offer and left the country because she did not wish to enter politics. She commented that since Quaid-e-Azam, no politician has emerged in Pakistan with the vision to fix the country’s situation.

In the current climate, if any institution or individual obstructs judges, those judges should summon them to court, hold them accountable, and, if necessary, imprison them.
