(Web Desk Monitoring) — The upcoming Taylor Swift concerts in Vienna have been cancelled due to a confirmed terrorist threat, event organizers announced.

The three Eras Tour shows, originally set for August 10-12 at the Ernst Happel Stadium, were called off following reports from Austrian authorities of a foiled terrorist plot targeting large events in Vienna. Authorities have arrested two suspects, including a 19-year-old Austrian in Ternitz and another individual in Vienna. The arrests followed concerns about potential Islamist attacks, with one suspect reportedly pledging allegiance to the so-called Islamic State in early July.

Franz Ruf, the Austrian General Director for Public Security, stated that the suspects had become radicalized through online platforms, and chemical substances were discovered during a search of the 19-year-old’s residence.

Event organizers emphasized that the decision to cancel the concerts was made with public safety as a priority. They assured ticket holders that all tickets would be automatically refunded within the next 10 working days.

Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer expressed regret over the cancellations but emphasized the seriousness of the threat, acknowledging that the preventive measures taken by police and security agencies had averted a potential tragedy.

Vienna police chief Gerhard Pürstl noted that the concerts were expected to draw 65,000 attendees daily, with an additional 22,000 expected outside the venue. The investigation into the threat is ongoing.
