LAHORE (Daily Point) — A peculiar trend, “Noreen Ro Rahi Hai” (Noreen is crying), has surged on Pakistani social media, captivating hundreds of thousands, particularly among PTI supporters.
The madness began following journalist and political analyst Hasan Ayub’s appearance on the ARY News show, The Reporters.
The discussion on the program centered around the PTI intra-party election, where Ayub, perceived as pro-PMLN, highlighted the ascent of newcomers within PTI, overshadowing long-standing party members like Noreen Farooq Khan. According to Ayub, Barrister Gohar, a recent PTI joiner, secured the chairman position, leaving Noreen feeling neglected.
Ayub asserted, “Noreen is now crying,” revealing that she expressed dissatisfaction with the party’s decision. Noreen, who claimed to have dedicated her life to PTI from 1999 to 2024, found it unjust that a member who joined in 2020 assumed a leadership role without a fair election.
Noreen Farooq Khan, the central figure in the controversy, was formerly the secretary of PTI in Punjab. Reports suggest she joined the Pakistan Muslim League-Q on March 12, 2023, led by Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain. However, a video clip featuring Chaudhry Ghualm Sarwar announced her departure from PTI to PMLQ, leading to questions about her loyalty.
In response, Noreen clarified that she never left PTI and still held the position of information secretary for the party’s labor wing. She, along with other PTI dissidents, contested the recent intra-party election before the Election Commission of Pakistan, expressing her desire to participate due to her longstanding commitment to the party.
As the social media trend #نورین_رو_رہی_ہے gained momentum, Noreen Farooq Khan released a video statement acknowledging Hasan Ayub’s presentation of her viewpoint on TV and refrained from condemning him. The situation remains dynamic as PTI supporters continue to engage with the unfolding narrative.
