LAHORE (Daily Point0 — Lahore High Court (LHC) Justice Shahid Karim issued a detailed verdict, following up on the concise order from the previous day, extending winter vacations in light of prevailing smog conditions.
In a two-page directive, Justice Karim instructed the Punjab Education Department to officially announce the extension of winter vacations for all educational institutions, including schools and colleges.
The decision came in response to the escalating threat of smog, with the Lahore High Court mandating an additional week of winter vacations during hearings related to petitions addressing the smog crisis.
Prior to the court’s intervention, the Punjab government had already implemented a schedule of three off days per week for schools in Lahore due to severe smog conditions. This measure aimed to mitigate the impact of smog on air quality in the provincial capital, following previous orders from the Lahore High Court.
The dense smog during the early winter days has been attributed to various factors, including emissions from vehicles, industrial facilities, and the burning of crop residues.
