World Bank greenlights $8.7 billion funding for Pakistan

(Web Desk Monitoring) — The World Bank has committed to providing $8.7 billion in loans to Pakistan over the next five years, aiming to support various development projects.

According to the Economic Affairs Division, there are currently 58 active projects in Pakistan with World Bank cooperation, totaling $14.8 billion. So far, Pakistan has received $6.16 billion of this amount.

The additional $8.7 billion in funding will include several key projects. Notably, $1 billion will be allocated to the Dasu Hydropower Project Phase One, with $700 million specifically for the Dasu Transmission Line. The Dasu Hydropower Stage One project will receive $584 million.

For Sindh, $500 million will be dedicated to the Flood Emergency Restoration Project, and another $500 million will support housing initiatives. The Khyber Pass Economic Corridor project is set to receive $460 million, while a hydropower and renewable energy project in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) will be funded with $450 million.

Additionally, $400 million will be allocated for expenditures and development projects in KP, and another $400 million will support higher education development projects. In Punjab, $440 million will be dedicated to rural water supply, and $390 million will go towards the Tarbela IV Extension project. Furthermore, $300 million will fund rural access projects in KP, and $258 million will support the National Health Support Project Phase One.

These initiatives aim to bolster Pakistan’s infrastructure, energy, education, and health sectors, contributing to the country’s overall development.
