Zardari’s question to Sanjrani: ‘Faiz is gone, what will you do now?’

ISLAMABAD (Daily Point) — At the wedding reception of Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s son in Islamabad, an entertaining exchange unfolded between Pakistan People’s Party Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari and Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani.

Seated at the same table with other politicians, Zardari playfully inquired about Sanjrani’s plans in the absence of former ISI DG Faiz Hamid, who retired last November.

“Faiz is gone, what will you do now?” Zardari asked. Sanjrani, hinting at seeking Zardari’s support, responded, “[But] you are still there.”

Zardari, in a taunting manner, advised Sanjrani to consider the dynamics of politics. “Their reign does not last forever, but ours does,” he remarked. The event was attended by various national politicians, including Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar and National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf.

The occasion marked the Nikkah of Fazl’s son, Maulana Asjad Mahmood, solemnized by Sahibzada Khalil. In a surprising turn of events in August 2019, Sanjrani survived a no-confidence motion, with allegations from the opposition that Faiz Hamid played a crucial role. Sanjrani was re-elected as the Senate chairman on March 12, 2021.
