BENGALURU (Daily Point) – Pakistan’s upcoming clash with New Zealand, slated for November 4 at India’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, faces a looming threat from anticipated rainfall, casting a shadow over the Green Shirts’ ambitions in the 2023 World Cup.

The weather forecast for Bengaluru indicates a substantial 70% to 80% chance of precipitation on Saturday afternoon, potentially disrupting the game’s outcome.

Notably, Pakistan’s prospects in the tournament hinge on securing a commanding victory against the Kiwis this weekend. A win by a margin of 84 runs would propel Pakistan ahead of New Zealand in the standings. Furthermore, chasing down the target in 35 overs could offer a strategic advantage.

However, these scenarios may be in jeopardy if rain intervenes, leading to a one-point allocation for each team in the event of a match washout, rendering net run rate calculations inconsequential.

Meanwhile, South Africa’s 190-run triumph over New Zealand in the 32nd match has provided a glimmer of hope for Pakistan. Yet, the path to the World Cup semi-finals remains challenging, with numerous obstacles to overcome.

In the pursuit of advancing, Pakistan must triumph in their remaining matches, with an ideal scenario involving a victory over New Zealand in the upcoming game and the Black Caps faltering against Sri Lanka.

Should New Zealand falter in their matches, concluding the group stage with eight points, Pakistan’s qualification for the knockout stage with ten points would become attainable.

Presently, Pakistan occupies the fifth position with six points, while New Zealand stands fourth with eight points.
