LAHORE (Daily Point) — After a period of speculation, leaks, and anticipation, Indus Motor Company (IMC) is gearing up to introduce its inaugural locally assembled hybrid electric vehicle (HEV), the Corolla Cross.
The local debut of the Corolla Cross Hybrid took place at a line-off ceremony in Karachi yesterday, attended by Toyota officials and government dignitaries.
During the event, Chairman of IMC, Mohamedali R. Habib, expressed gratitude to stakeholders for their support, emphasizing the significance of this milestone in strengthening the enduring bond between Japan and Pakistan.
Yoshiyuki Takai, President of Toyota’s Emerging-market Compact Car Company and Executive Vice President of Toyota Daihatsu Engineering and Manufacturing, underscored the rising popularity of HEVs among consumers in Asian countries. He expressed hope that Pakistani customers would embrace the Corolla Cross HEV as an appealing, efficient, and exhilarating vehicle, akin to its success in other markets.
Asad Rehman Gilani, Federal Secretary of the Ministry of Industries and Production, extended congratulations to Toyota for achieving this milestone. He also highlighted the government’s dedication to supporting the auto sector’s efforts in introducing hybrid and electric technologies in Pakistan. Gilani emphasized the importance of accelerating exports to address the trade deficit.
Ali Asghar Jamali, CEO of IMC, disclosed that the Corolla Cross would feature an 1800cc engine, offering choices between hybrid and gasoline drivetrains, available in both low and high-grade models.
Despite the unveiling, IMC has not disclosed details regarding the car’s availability or pricing. A recent viral letter claiming to reveal launch details and prices was discredited by the company.
