ISLAMABAD (Daily Point) — Former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, has voiced concerns about her brother’s fate in the ongoing cipher case trial, stating fears of a death penalty, as reported by The News on Thursday.

Addressing reporters outside Adiala jail, where Imran Khan is currently held for the cipher case, Aleema raised doubts about the fairness of the ex-prime minister’s trial, expressing her skepticism about justice prevailing.

Imran Khan was formally indicted in the cipher case by the special court established under the Official Secrets Act 2023, with charges related to the alleged misuse of diplomatic cables for political purposes. Despite the indictment, Khan has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Aleema, discussing the circumstances surrounding her brother’s trial, highlighted the peculiar setup in the Adiala jail courtroom, where cubicles had reportedly been created. She expressed confusion about the reasons behind such arrangements, questioning the underlying fear prompting these measures.

Describing the situation inside the courtroom, Aleema mentioned that her entire family was present, but the courtroom was locked from the outside. She claimed that they were pursued after leaving their residence and received threats of imprisonment.

While asserting their lack of fear, Aleema emphasized the importance of media presence for a fair trial. She raised concerns about media personnel being denied access to the trial, hinting at a potential hidden agenda behind such restrictions.

In a poignant remark, Aleema lamented the state of affairs, stating, “It seems that we are not in our country but in some other country. It is very sad to see what is happening to us in our own country.”
