ISLAMABAD (Daily Point) — In a crackdown against the absconding Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders involved in the May 9 riots, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) on Monday took action to block the Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) , following a directive from the Interior Ministry on the recommendation of the Punjab police.

The PTI leaders, declared absconders in cases related to the May 9 riots, had their CNICs blocked. The affected individuals include Murad Saeed, Azam Swat, Hammad Azhar, Aslam Iqbal, Karam Khokhar, Ali Amin Gandapur, Wasiq Qayyum Abbasi, Musarrat Cheema, Jamshed Cheema, Zubair Niazi, Malik Nadeem Abbas, and Ghulam Muhiuddin.

The decision to block the CNICs was made in coordination with the police, and it is stated that the CNICs will remain blocked until the PTI leaders appear before Anti-Terrorism Courts (ATC) in relation to the May 9 cases.

The May 9 riots erupted nationwide following the arrest of the PTI chairman in the Al-Qadir Trust case. The protests led to violent clashes in both remote and major cities, with party workers expressing agitation over their chairman’s detention.

Balochistan, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabad saw widespread protests, prompting the summoning of the armed forces to maintain law and order. During the demonstrations, there were attacks on army installations and the Corps Commander’s house in Lahore by PTI workers.
