(Daily Point) — As the nation braces for the upcoming February 8 elections, certain regions experience subdued campaigning due to security concerns, with some candidates encountering injuries or fatalities.
In the most recent incident, Zulfiqar Shah, a candidate from the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) in Mirpur Khas, was wounded in a targeted gun attack. Local law enforcement reported that unidentified assailants fired six to seven bullets at Shah’s vehicle before fleeing the scene. Shah sustained injuries and was swiftly transported for medical treatment.
This event comes shortly after a grenade attack on the election office of another PPP candidate in Quetta, which resulted in three children being injured. In response, the Election Commission has called for a report from the chief secretary and IG Balochistan regarding the attack.
The prevailing atmosphere of security threats looms over the electoral process, posing risks to candidates and their teams as the nation approaches polling day on February 8
