Is it possible for PMLN-led ruling coalition to secure a two-thirds majority?

PMLN Vote majority

(Daily Point) — Leaders from PMLN, PPP, MQMP, PMLQ, IPP, and BAP unveiled a comprehensive six-party plan for the central government formation. During the gathering at PMLQ leader Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain’s residence, the parties discussed their strategy.

While not officially termed a ruling alliance, PPP has declared that it won’t be part of the government but has pledged its 54 votes to support the election of a PMLN candidate, likely Shehbaz Sharif, as the prime minister.

The collective tally of seats includes PMLN’s 75, PPP’s 54, MQMP’s 17, PMLQ’s 3, and IPP’s 2, along with one seat from BAP, totaling 152. Additionally, PMLN, PPP, MQMP, and PMLQ are anticipated to secure reserved seats for women and minorities.

Party position in National Assembly

Under Article 51 of the constitution, political parties gain reserved seats based on their National Assembly seats in a given province and the reserved seats quota for that province. Punjab has 31 women seats, KP 10, Sindh 14, and Balochistan 4.

Considering MWM’s single seat from KP, the reserved women seats from KP could go to PTI if PTI-backed candidates align with MWM, which has been announced by the party.

Out of the 70 reserved seats, approximately 58 could be allocated to the six-party group, while 12 might go to PTI/MWM. This would bring the ruling group’s total to 210, falling slightly short of the two-thirds majority required to amend the constitution, which stands at 112 in a 336-member house.

With the potential support of JUI-F, even though it has indicated not joining the ruling group, the PMLN-led government could still have the necessary backing to amend the constitution.
