LAHORE (Daily Point) — Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Chief Organiser Maryam Nawaz asserted on Wednesday that former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will remain actively involved in politics despite declining a government position.
Dispelling any notion of Nawaz Sharif exiting politics due to his refusal of the prime ministerial post, Maryam stated, “If it is being assumed that Nawaz Sharif is stepping back from politics by not accepting the position of prime minister, then that is not true.”
Maryam Nawaz emphasized that the PML-N leader will play an active role in politics, providing support to the governments at the federal and provincial levels. Referring to Nawaz Sharif’s past terms, she mentioned, “In the three governments of Nawaz Sharif, the people granted him a clear majority, and he has consistently stated in his election speeches that he will not participate in any coalition government.”
Furthermore, Maryam Nawaz added that Shahbaz Sharif, Nawaz’s younger brother, will follow the directives of his elder sibling, working under Nawaz Sharif’s leadership and supervision.
A day prior, Nawaz Sharif nominated his younger brother, Shehbaz Sharif, for the position of prime minister, eliciting a range of strong emotions from PML-N supporters on social media, including sorrow, shame, and outright dejection. The announcement of Shehbaz Sharif’s nomination was conveyed to the public by party spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb in a statement on X.
