Imran Khan ‘ready’ to talk with PPP for govt formation

(Daily Point) — Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has reportedly shown a willingness to engage in talks with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) regarding the formation of the government in the Centre, according to sources within the PTI as reported by private TV channel Geo News on Thursday.

Sources suggest that despite Khan being in custody, he is prepared to initiate discussions with the PPP, and a committee will be established to facilitate talks between the two political parties on the matter of government formation. This move comes in the backdrop of an alliance being formed by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) with other political entities, including the PPP, to establish a coalition government in the Centre, despite independent candidates backed by the PTI securing the majority of National Assembly seats in the February 8 polls.

In addition to the potential dialogue with the PPP, the PTI is also planning to engage with other rivals such as the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl, Awami National Party, Jamaat-e-Islami, and other nationalist parties that have been protesting against alleged election rigging.

This development follows PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari expressing a willingness to hold talks with PTI for the purpose of promoting a reconciliation process in the country. Zardari emphasized the importance of including all political powers, including the PTI, in the reconciliation process to address economic, defense, and other shared agendas.

However, the PTI leadership, including Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, has refuted reports of reaching out to the PPP for government formation. Saif stated that the PTI founder strictly advised against holding talks with the PPP and PML-N, clarifying that the PTI’s stance is to sit in opposition rather than forming an alliance.

Meanwhile, the PTI has nominated its Secretary General, Omar Ayub Khan, for the position of the country’s prime minister. Asad Qaiser, a PTI leader, conveyed this decision after meeting with Imran Khan at Adiala jail in Rawalpindi. The PTI founder reportedly informed Qaiser that decisions would be made in consultation with political leadership, and preparations for government formation should be initiated.

The PTI founder also expressed a desire for the United States to monitor election rigging and raise its voice against it. Barrister Saif conveyed Khan’s message, stating that the US has an opportunity to rectify past mistakes in supporting dictators and corrupt individuals globally. Additionally, the party announced the nomination of Aqeebullah, the brother of Asad Qaiser, for the speaker post in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly.
