(Web Desk Monitoring) — In Karachi’s Liaquatabad area, residents took to the streets in frustration over prolonged power outages amid sweltering heat, culminating in an incident where protestors stormed the local K-Electric office on Tuesday.
According to the local media reports, the unrest led to vandalism at the FC Area office and damage to parked vehicles, highlighting residents’ deep-seated grievances.
The outcry reflects a sense of neglect and frustration among locals who feel their concerns about electricity shortages have been ignored. The protest spilled over onto the main road near Shafiq Mor, causing significant traffic disruptions.
Responding to the incident, K-Electric condemned the attack on its premises and vehicles, emphasizing their commitment to investigating the matter seriously. Meanwhile, law enforcement authorities have registered a case against the protestors involved, citing charges related to public disturbance and property damage.
Earlier, the Sindh High Court voiced dissatisfaction with unannounced power cuts in economically vulnerable areas, criticizing K-Electric during a hearing regarding disruptions in Jamshed Quarters on Jahangir Road. Justice Salahuddin directed the company’s legal counsel to provide an affidavit detailing the extent of load-shedding in the locality.
