15 British-Pakistanis elected as MPs in recent UK elections

(Web Desk) — In the recent British national election, at least 15 candidates of Pakistani origin have been elected to the UK House of Commons (MPs).

The majority of these MPs are from the Labour Party, with a few elected as independents. Here is the list of the successful Pakistani-origin candidates:

Labour Party:

  • Afzal Khan
  • Imran Hussain
  • Naz Shah
  • Yasmin Qureshi
  • Muhammad Yasin
  • Tahir Ali
  • Shabana Mahmood
  • Zarah Sultana
  • Dr. Zubir Ahmed
  • Naushabah Khan
  • Dr. Rosena Allin-Khan

Independent:

  • Ayoub Khan
  • Adnan Hussain

Conservative Party:

  • Saqib Bhatti
  • Nusrat Ghani

Additionally, the number of British Indian MPs has increased significantly, with 26 British Indians elected to the House of Commons, a 73% increase from the previous 15.

The latest election results indicate that Black, Asian, and ethnic minority lawmakers will now make up approximately 13% of the House of Commons, up from 10% in the 2019 parliamentary election. This marks the largest-ever representation of ethnic minority members in the lower house.
