Apple’s foldable project currently finalizing its design: sources

Apple Foldable design

(Daily Point) — According to recent reports citing insider information from supply chain sources, Apple’s foldable project is reportedly in the final stages of design.

The convergence of various design components for the folding device suggests that Apple is nearing completion of this phase, hinting at potential considerations for mass production.

Despite this progress, the report indicates that Apple’s foldable device may not hit the market either in the current year or in 2025. Previous speculations have consistently pointed to Apple working on at least two flip-style foldables, akin to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip. Notably, these devices are anticipated to be distinct from the iPhone lineup, forming part of a separate product category. Some sources suggest that Apple’s foldables, featuring 7-8-inch displays, might find their place in the iPad category due to their larger screens. Alternatively, Apple may be strategically introducing foldables to a different lineup before incorporating them into its flagship iPhones.

Additional reports have hinted at Apple’s exploration of a foldable screen laptop, aligning with offerings from manufacturers like Asus and other Windows laptop makers. Korean news outlets claim that Apple is in discussions with suppliers to launch a foldable-screen MacBook, potentially revitalizing the currently sluggish display market. The projected timeline for the release of the foldable screen MacBook is 2026, following an anticipated announcement in 2025.

This move comes as a response to the saturated smartphone market, with Korean display manufacturers such as Samsung Display and LG Display significantly increasing investments in OLED panels for laptops. Both companies are actively collaborating on the development and production of foldable OLED panels tailored specifically for laptops, recognizing the growing potential of this emerging market.
