Breakthrough DNA test enables early cancer detection

WASHINGTON (Daily Point) — Scientists at the US biotech company Novelna have unveiled a groundbreaking DNA test capable of diagnosing 18 different early-stage cancers, according to a study published in BMJ Oncology.

The research suggests that sex-specific cancer protein signals may necessitate different tests for men and women. The study involved analyzing blood plasma samples from 44 healthy donors and 440 individuals with various cancers, identifying specific proteins indicating cancer presence and origin.

While larger sample size tests are needed, the plasma test showed 99% accuracy in distinguishing between cancer and normal cells. If further validated, this breakthrough could potentially reshape screening guidelines and become a standard component of routine check-ups, offering a more efficient way to identify cancers earlier.

Experts believe it has the potential to be a gamechanger in cancer diagnosis and treatment.
