(Web Desk Monitoring) — The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has announced a decisive crackdown on non-filers starting October 1, as part of its push to achieve the annual tax target of approximately Rs12,970 billion.
Millions of non-filers will receive final tax notices, with the FBR aiming to enhance compliance across various sectors. According to FBR sources, non-filers may face severe restrictions, including bans on foreign travel, and could have their mobile SIMs, electricity, and gas services disconnected if they fail to fulfill their tax obligations. Taxpayers are required to submit their income tax returns for the financial year 2024 by September 30; those who miss this deadline will face double withholding tax rates.
The FBR’s crackdown will focus on ten major sectors, including retail, wholesale, transport, real estate, construction, health, and education. Officials noted that the FBR has comprehensive records of citizens’ financial transactions, enabling it to identify and target tax evaders effectively.
Additionally, a proposed ban on the sale and purchase of property and vehicles by non-filers is under consideration. Following the deadline, the FBR will conduct extensive audits of taxpayers, with heavy penalties in place for tax evasion or submission of false information.
