ISLAMABAD (Daily Point) — Amidst President Arif Alvi’s apparent lack of response regarding the convening of a National Assembly session, the government has opted to circumvent the situation by initiating the session through the speaker.
Sources suggest that the prospective date for the new session is February 29. Instead of awaiting President Alvi’s approval, the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs intends to forward the session’s summary directly to Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf.
The constitutional requirement dictates that the new National Assembly must convene within 21 days of the general elections, placing the date for the current assembly on February 29.
Despite forwarding the session’s summary to President Alvi four days ago, no response has been received. Speculations suggest that President Alvi may be delaying approval until the notification of Sunni Ittehad Council’s reserved seats.
Furthermore, the Election Commission of Pakistan is yet to notify all the reserved seats for minorities and women in the lower house of Parliament, adding another layer of complexity to the current political situation.
