LAHORE (Daily Point) – Maulana Tariq Jamil’s son, Asim Jamil, took his own life after battling ‘Depression’ for the past six years. His elder brother shared the cause of death via a video on social media.
He explained that Asim Jamil had been continuously monitored by the family due to his severe illness. Unfortunately, on Sunday, he found an opportunity to be alone in his room, where he took a rifle from the guard and shot himself.
According to Captain (retd) Sohail Chaudhry, RPO Multan, “The DPO has reviewed CCTV footage that appears to depict Asim Jamil’s act of suicide.” It is believed that Asim inflicted a gunshot wound upon himself in the chest. The authorities are in the process of sending the footage for forensic analysis.
RPO Chaudhry also disclosed that Asim had been a psychiatric patient for several years and was under medication. He ended his life using a 30-bore pistol and had asked his domestic help, Imran, to fetch the firearm.
During this distressing incident, Asim, with the gun pointed at his chest, was discouraged by his domestic help from taking such action.
The police officer further revealed that Asim Jamil got married of his choice, but it ultimately ended in divorce.
Prior to these details, the renowned religious scholar himself took to social media, announcing the passing of his son with the words, “My son Asim Jamil passed away in Tulamba [Khanewal, Punjab] today.”
Confirming the cause of death, Chaudhry stated, “Asim died from a gunshot wound,” adding that the police were at the scene, collecting information regarding the incident. Asim suffered a gunshot injury to his chest.
Meanwhile, the Punjab Inspector General of Police, Dr. Usman Anwar, has requested a comprehensive report on the matter from the Multan RPO. A Punjab police spokesperson indicated that the IG has directed the thorough examination of Asim’s death in light of the available evidence and the forensic report. Additionally, the Khanewal DPO and other senior officials have arrived at the scene to gather evidence.
The news of Asim’s sudden demise has sparked an outpouring of condolences from individuals across the country. People from various walks of life have extended their sympathies to the grieving family during this challenging time.
Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar expressed deep sorrow and condolences over Asim Jameel’s passing. In his message, he prayed for the departed soul and for the family to find strength in coping with this loss.
