Nawaz Sharif demands to hold accountable those behind his ouster

LAHORE (Daily Point) — Former prime minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) quid, has renewed his demand for accountability of those responsible for his 2017 removal from power and the alleged damage caused to Pakistan.

Speaking at a PML-N parliamentary board meeting in Lahore alongside PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif, Vice President Maryam Nawaz, and other leaders, Sharif demanded action against those behind the “bogus cases” filed against him and his family.

Referring to corruption charges stemming from the Panama Papers revelations, Sharif highlighted the unjust incarceration of party leaders and his own seven-year struggle for justice. Disqualified for life by the Supreme Court while serving as prime minister, Sharif faced NAB (National Accountability Bureau) references leading to convictions in Avenfield and Al-Aziza cases in 2018. However, the Islamabad High Court recently overturned the Avenfield conviction, with the Al-Azizia appeal pending.

During his address, Sharif expressed the PML-N’s commitment to serving the nation but insisted on holding accountable those involved in alleged victimization of party leaders. Returning from a four-year self-imposed exile in October, Sharif clarified that his return aimed not only at forming a government but also at taking action against corruption and political victimization.

Sharif also referenced a leaked audio conversation allegedly involving former Chief Justice Saqib Nisar, where Nisar purportedly suggested keeping PML-N leaders, including Sharif, behind bars to pave the way for Imran Khan and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in the 2018 elections. Without naming individuals, Sharif criticized Imran Khan and labeled the 190 million pounds NAB reference against PTI leaders as the “biggest scam” in Pakistan’s history. He accused them of exploiting the idea of a Madina-like welfare state for political gain, stressing that the 190 million pound case was a significant scandal.
