(Daily Point) — Adobe has introduced a new AI Assistant integrated within Acrobat and Reader, joining the growing trend of generative AI innovations in the tech industry.

This conversational tool, currently in beta and powered by generative AI, is designed to provide summaries, answer queries, and assist with formatting information for email sharing within the widely-used PDF applications.

Despite the widespread use of word processing apps, PDFs remain essential for document security, with an estimated three trillion PDFs circulating globally. Adobe’s latest update aims to make generative AI more accessible to users.

The AI Assistant utilizes the same AI and ML models as Acrobat Liquid Mode, which optimizes PDF layouts for smaller screens.

In addition to summarization capabilities, users can expect intelligent citations to verify the source of responses from the AI Assistant, along with clickable links for easier navigation through lengthy PDF documents.

Adobe assures users that their customer data will not be stored or used for training purposes without consent.

This launch is just the beginning, with plans for additional features including insights from various document types, editing and formatting tools, and improved collaboration functionality.

Abhigyan Modi, SVP for Document Cloud at Adobe, highlighted the potential of generative AI to enhance document experiences by transforming PDF content into actionable, informed, and professional-looking material.

Initially, the beta version of the AI Assistant will be included free of charge with Acrobat Standard and Acrobat Pro subscriptions for individual and team customers, with English language support first and additional languages to be added later. Adobe intends to introduce a separate subscription fee for the AI Assistant once it is generally available, though the exact pricing has not been disclosed.
