(Daily Point) — The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) have reportedly discussed the potential for a power-sharing arrangement, where prime ministers from each party would serve alternating three- and two-year terms.

According to the sources informed Geo News, this discussion arose during their initial meeting on Sunday post the February 8 elections, aiming to establish a coalition government at both the federal and provincial levels. The proposed model resembles the arrangement between PML-N and the National Party (NP) in Balochistan in 2013, where chief ministers from both parties shared the five-year term.

At the meeting held in Lahore’s Bilawal House, attended by PPP-Parliamentarian President Asif Ali Zardari, PPP Chairman Bilawal-Bhutto Zardari, and former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif from the PML-N, both parties tentatively agreed to prioritize the nation’s stability over their individual interests.

The joint statement issued post-meeting highlighted discussions on Pakistan’s political landscape, emphasizing collaborative efforts for national betterment. Leaders from both sides, including Azam Nazir Tarar, Ayaz Sadiq, Ahsan Iqbal, Rana Tanvir, Khawaja Saad Rafique, Malik Ahmad Khan, Marriyum Aurangzeb, and Sheza Fatima, deliberated on strategies to promote stability and progress.

The inside scoop reveals that the PML-N officially proposed a coalition to the PPP and shared its outreach efforts with independent lawmakers and MQM-Pakistan. While the PML-N aims to retain the prime ministerial slot, the PPP, led by Asif Zardari, asserts Bilawal’s nomination. Consequently, both parties explored the possibility of alternating prime ministers every half of the five-year term.

Agreements were reached to form coalition governments at the federal, Punjab, and Balochistan levels, with a proposed roadmap aligned with the 2006 Charter of Democracy. The PPP planned to present power-sharing proposals in its Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting.

Meanwhile, PML-N and MQM-Pakistan also agreed on political cooperation for future government formation. Nawaz Sharif and Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui led their respective party delegations in discussions aimed at national benefit.

Despite initial reports suggesting discussions on Sindh governorship, MQM-P’s Siddiqui clarified that talks didn’t broach the subject of cooperation for federal government formation.

Subsequently, Nawaz Sharif engaged in a phone conversation with JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, discussing ongoing political dynamics amidst coalition-building endeavors.
