LAHORE (Daily Point) — Sher Afzal Marwat, a member of Tehreek-e-Insaf’s lawyers’ team, was arrested by Lahore Police outside the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday.
Sher Afzal Marwat, the senior vice president of the party, found himself in police custody as he was leaving the high court after participating in a lawyers’ convention. Reports indicate that he is being taken to the Mozang Police Station.
This incident follows last week’s allegation by the PTI leader, claiming an attempted “abduction” by KP police while en route to Gulabad near Chakdara for a party convention scheduled in Bajaur. Marwat asserted that approximately 300 heavily equipped officers were involved in the incident, making a concerted effort to ‘abduct’ him as he entered Gulabad. Due to an uproar from the party workers present, the police subsequently released him and instructed them to leave the area.
The recent development comes after the registration of a first information report (FIR) against Marwat and PTI workers for organising a worker’s convention in Swabi on December 3. Authorities charged 21 local PTI leaders and others for violating Section 144, which empowers the district administration to impose a complete ban on any form of unlawful or unauthorized gathering, rally, assembly, protest, or gathering of more than five people.
It’s is pertinent to mention here that Marwat had previously secured protective bail from the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in two cases. In October, a case was filed against him in K-P for allegedly provoking the public against state institutions through social media.
Earlier on Friday, Sher Afzal Marwat evaded arrest in Chakdara. Before, it was reported that Marwat was arrested in Chakdara. Marwat was heading from Bajaur to Chakdara to attend tomorrow’s workers’ convention when he was ‘kidnapped’ from Chakdara.
