LAHORE (Daily Point) — A severe cold wave has tightened its grip on Lahore and various parts of Punjab, enveloping the region in dense fog.
The government is now considering measures to safeguard school-going students from the extreme weather conditions.
As Punjab experiences the impact of the latest cold snap, the thick fog has significantly reduced visibility, leading to disruptions in daily life and potential impacts on transportation and other services.
Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi has mentioned the possibility of extending the winter vacation for schools beyond January 9. However, he emphasized that no final decision has been made yet. In a recent media interaction, CM Naqvi stated that any further extension of the winter break would be contingent on the recommendations of the education department.
Earlier, the Punjab government had already announced additional holidays, extending the winter break until January 9. Originally, the vacations were scheduled to end on December 31 but were extended due to the prevailing weather conditions.
Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has also declared an extension of winter vacations. The provincial administration has extended the winter break until January 7, 2024, in response to the challenging weather conditions.
