Shehbaz Sharif elected 24th PM

PM National Assembly

ISLAMABAD (Daily Point) — Shehbaz Sharif, from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), was elected as the 24th Prime Minister of Pakistan by the National Assembly amidst disruptions caused by the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC).

The session, chaired by National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, commenced with the oath-taking of PML-N’s Jam Kamal.

However, chaos ensued as SIC members chanted slogans both in favor of imprisoned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and in support of Shehbaz Sharif’s alliance.

To ensure all members were present for the prime ministerial election, Speaker Sadiq ordered a five-minute bell ringing. Subsequently, the doors were locked, and the voting process was initiated. The Speaker announced Shehbaz Sharif and Omar Ayub as the valid candidates for the position.

During the voting, members of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) walked out in protest, declaring a boycott. Balochistan National Party’s Sardar Akhtar Mengal abstained from voting.

After the polling concluded, the results were tallied by the NA secretary. Upon completion, the lawmakers were summoned back into the House for the announcement of the results, which declared Shehbaz Sharif as the elected Prime Minister of Pakistan.
