ISLAMABAD (Daily Point) — A sweeping disruption has engulfed social media platforms across Pakistan, affecting key services including X, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, as reported by the internet monitoring service Netblocks.

Reports flooded in from users residing in major cities such as Lahore, Karachi, and Islamabad, highlighting difficulties in accessing social media platforms shortly after 8 pm. Users also reported experiencing sluggish internet services during the disruption.

Netblocks, a prominent internet monitoring organization, swiftly documented the incident, categorizing it as a “nation-scale disruption.” The root cause of this widespread disruption remains shrouded in uncertainty.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of a recurring trend, underscoring that social media access in Pakistan has encountered obstacles on multiple occasions. On May 9, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) officially acknowledged the suspension of mobile broadband services across the nation, following instructions from the interior ministry. During this episode, Netblocks also recorded restrictions on access to Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube, coinciding with the arrest of PTI chief Imran Khan in the Al-Qadir Trust case.

As the investigation into the current disruption unfolds, users are left grappling with connectivity issues and uncertainties surrounding the timeline for resolution. The recurring nature of such incidents emphasizes the need for robust measures to ensure the reliability and continuity of digital communication channels in the country.

The nation awaits further updates on the situation, hoping for a swift resolution to restore normalcy to the impacted social media services.
