Some YouTube Music users on iOS are encountering a bug that leads to a black screen upon opening the app on specific Google Accounts, preventing them from playing any songs, as reported by 9to5Google.
Affected users can only access the app bar displaying YouTube Music’s logo, search, and profile avatar, along with the bottom bar. Due to this issue, browsing and playback are not possible.
One Reddit user described the problem: “I’m on the latest version of iOS and YT Music. Despite reinstalling the app, I can’t use it.”
While some have found a workaround by switching to a different account to listen with ads, their YouTube Premium subscription and library remain inaccessible on the affected account.
Interestingly, this issue seems confined to iOS, with the Android version reportedly functioning normally. 9to5Google suggests the problem might be server-side, as the latest app update (version 6.48.3) was rolled out recently.
Even uninstalling and reinstalling the app doesn’t resolve the issue.
In addition to the black screen glitch, some iPhone users have noted that the next and previous buttons have been replaced by 30-second forward and 10-second rewind buttons. While this might be beneficial for podcasts, it’s less practical for music, as highlighted by 9to5Google.
These button replacements are visible in “CarPlay” and the system-level “Now Playing” controls on the lock screen.
